A Legacy Steeped in Tea
Silver Spring Tea Merchant was born from a love of tea, a love of family, and a longing to carry something beautiful forward.
Long before Silver Spring Tea Merchant had a name, there was Silver Spring—the name my great-grandfather gave to the family farm he purchased and made his own. Though the farm is no longer in our family, the memories made there remain. For me, Silver Spring is more than a place that once belonged to our family. It is a feeling. It is warmth, belonging, and the simple beauty of generations gathered together.
Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on the arm of my great-grandfather's chair, sipping tea beside him. There was almost always a little stash of cookies tucked between his chair and the wall, waiting for small hands to discover them. On the table beside him sat a thermos of orange pekoe, already sweetened with sugar and mixed with fresh farm milk—what we affectionately called “bubble milk.” When the cup was empty, there was always enough waiting for another.
My great-grandmother passed away shortly before I was born, so I never had the chance to know her. Yet in many ways, the stories, traditions, and memories of that generation have become part of the inheritance I carry with me. Silver Spring Tea Merchant is my way of honouring that inheritance while creating something of my own.
I wanted to build something rooted in the past, but made for the future—a legacy that begins with the memories I was given and continues through the hands of the next generation. A place where family can work together, where old traditions can find new life, and where a simple cup of tea can still make someone feel at home.
Silver Spring Tea Merchant is a celebration of those little moments that stay with us: a warm cup held between two hands, a biscuit shared across a table, the stories of those who came before us, and the hope of those still to come.
